Susan Kingsbury

Artist Statement Light and shadow. Play of colors against each other, creating a balanced tension or a calm resolution. Considered composition and color fields created by the juxtaposition of shapes, created either by me in my studio or by Nature outside. Painting informed by my graphic design experience, and not inconsequentially also by the fact that I lost sight in one eye about 10 years ago. I seek the overall emotional effect rather than detailed accuracy. Paintings speak for themselves on a non-verbal level of informing.

When I approach a canvas, I often have no idea where the process of painting will take me. I may finish a painting in one sitting, or I may let my first layer dry, then add what is almost a new painting over it. This process creates serendipitous rewards and unexpected depth and significance.

I have moved 20 feet across the hall from my previous studio into a sunny, warm new space. Please call to visit: 603.398.8122

Thank you.
