Soosen Dunholter
Artist Statement The prints in FREE FLOW began as a self-prompt; a descriptive working title for the pieces I planned for this show.Working in a nontraditional printmaking style, I focus my attention first on creating a surface texture. I then work back into the monoprint or collagraphic plates I use to create those surfaces with collage and/or encaustic techniques. Allowing imagery and ideas to flow freely as I create each unique piece of art, FREE FLOW evolved into a series of flowing forms, bubbles, shapes, thoughts, words and a completed work reflecting my creative stream of consciousness.
My printmaking approach engages an active, fluid methodology in comparison to my collage work which is a calmer, more meditative process. FREE FLOW represents an inquiry into aspects of spontaneity, methodology and experimentation – all processes that are important to me - and characterized by the act of trusting an idea, caring for it and seeing it through to the final result. The finished work is then free to have a life of its own.
Biography The prints and mixed-media work of Soosen Dunholter, have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and cultural centers throughout New England. Her minimalist work focuses on the interplay between form, color, and line upon subtle textures. Her appealing multi-layered surface treatment invites further exploration.
Graduating with a BA in Fine Arts in 1979, her career as an artist has continued to evolve through master classes with printmakers and painters, as well as a wide variety of artist workshops she attended where she experimented and explored a variety of philosophies and mediums.
Soosen is a member of Monadnock Art, Friends of the Dublin Art Colony, and a Juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association. She currently creates and shows her art in her studio/gallery in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
