Jane Howard
Artist Statement The possibility of understanding, capturing, and sharing what one finds interesting and beautiful is the lure of painting.Weather permitting, I paint landscapes. Chased indoors, I paint still life. The transition from “en plein air” to” nature morte” is facilitated by including a bone, stone, shell or pine cone in my compositions. I like the solidity of natural wood, slate, and utilitarian objects that have both visual and affective force. While landscapes, homescapes, and mindscapes are my genres, the ultimate appeal of a painting depends, finally, on how the paint is put on the canvas.
