Catherine A. LaRoche
Artist Statement I have loved letters since I was a child. I enjoy creating pieces using traditional and contemporary calligraphy, illumination, watercolor, and collage. I work with bottled and stick ink, watercolor, gouache, shell gold, gold leaf, and various papers, pens, brushes, quills, etc.Biography Cathy has been a calligrapher for more than 30 years. Her first and most influential teacher was her grandfather, J. Arthur LaRoche, who was a professional calligrapher and from whom she learned a variety of calligraphic hands and the art of illumination. Cathy has studied with several world-renowned calligraphers, and has taught at the Sharon Arts Center. Her work has been exhibited in one-woman, group, faculty, and juried shows. She is a member of the Friends of Calligraphy (San Francisco), Casco Bay Scribes (Maine), IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting), and Cyberscribes.
