Catherine A. LaRoche
Artist Statement I have loved letterforms and lettering since I was a young child. I do traditional and contemporary calligraphy, illumination, watercolor, mixed media, and collage. I work with bottled and stick inks, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, 23k shell gold, gold leaf, and a variety of papers, pens, and brushes.Biography Cathy has been a calligrapher for more than 30 years. She has studied with many world-renowned calligraphers. Her first and one of her most influential teachers was her grandfather, J. Arthur LaRoche, from whom she learned a number of calligraphic hands and the art of illumination. Cathy has taught at Sharon Arts Center and Franklin Pierce University. Her work has been exhibited in one-woman, group, faculty, and juried shows. She is a member of Masscribes, the Friends of Calligraphy (San Francisco), the Washington (DC) Calligraphers Guild, IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting), and Cyberscribes.
Cathy is President of the Board of Monadnock Art / Friends of the Dublin Art Colony, and has participated many times in the annual MA/FDAC Open Studio Art Tour.
